When I started Flourish, my design/build company, it was exciting to build and grow as a business, but nerve wracking to predict how and if I would succeed.  As I helped my clients beautify their homes, my own remained unfinished and unimpressive.  At a certain point I thought ‘How can I promote a life of beauty when I know I am not being an example?’  Partly, I didn’t think I could afford me, but strangely I also didn’t think I deserved a nice place.

When my business coach brought this to my attention, I started to unravel a dangerous belief, and began the process of permission.

In bits and pieces I gave myself permission to live beautifully.  At first it looked like minor upgrades here and there among furnishings, but then momentum took hold and it became like a race to define who I was in everything I owned and everything that was around me.  From that initial ‘aha’ moment, and a three year process of purging, editing, and recreating, the people, places, and things in my life have changed dramatically.

Looking back, I see that many of the fears and disempowered thinking in my business were reflected in my environment.  By addressing the desire to succeed and honoring my true desire to live beautifully, I enhanced my business every step of the way.  Providing a nurturing foundation of beauty in every nook and cranny of my home and relationships (yep, great relationships matter, too) allowed me to become so much more aligned and honest about my true genius.  In turn, it made me more able to serve my clients.

Space matters

The space you’re in everyday should bring joy as well as function in your life.  Clean & functional are not enough, I give you permission for beauty.
