Yeah…when it’s grey like this I usually need a hug.
It is historically the ‘down time’ for my first business Flourish, which I am going to take this moment to celebrate a miracle.
WITHOUT EVEN TRYING…Flourish is now a 4-hour work week for me.
(A 40-hour one for someone awesome I hired and trained).
I did it while doubling Flourish’s residential sales in 2018.
Oh, I also weathered the worst breakup of my life.
Thanks to my friends and my coach, it wasn’t easy but it wasn’t hard.
So I’ll just hug myself while I pat myself on the back.
I know coaches are supposed to brag so that you want to know all their secrets and ride one their coattails so here is the pretty and the ugly about the situation and how I got here using Tim Ferris’s words from the 4 Hour Work Week:
“A person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have.”
I’ve already had FOUR uncomfortable conversations today. It’s 11:30 am.
I also trained Chris, the Flourish designer, on how to have one this afternoon, and another one later in the week.
All for the love of beauty, commitment to integrity, and joy of helping others.
Did you know uncomfortable conversations needed to be a part of this? They are.
“If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is, too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.”
The thoughts about whether or not I can do it daily are so relentless, it’s like I’m hanging out with the other team’s cheerleaders.
The move here is just to carry on, put on my favourite tunes and poker face when it gets bad and tap that passion.
Speaking of passion…
The question you should be asking isn’t, “What do I want?” or “What are my goals?” but “What would excite me?”
Goals are very boring when there isn’t an exciting carrot attached. Do not skip this part. Recently I became ‘bored’, having delegated nearly all the creative work in my business, so I had to retap the excitement.
I reinvented my dope-ass Instagram feed and now I’m planning to write a book.
I also hired a personal trainer and the guitar lessons continue because passion can’t be an either-or life/business thing.
A lack of excitement will lead to a life of great Netflix. You choose.
Oh and boredom? The enemy…
“The opposite of love is indifference, and the opposite of happiness is boredom.”
I’ve been working out of my home for ten years…no bosses, lunch when I want, sick days when I want, and naps, too. The only thing in the way of my getting shit done is myself and my cats who prance on my keyboard.
To say that the universe has been kind is an understatement.
This culmination of freedom can get boring, though. Hence the reigniting of the excitement.
But it’s not the universe that did this, it was me who loved myself enough to give it to me and a fierce hatred of boredom.
I did not wait for someone else to love me.
“Someday” is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you.”
I never set out saying, I am going to make Flourish a 4-Hour work week.
And if you don’t know what Flourish is, it’s my first company, and you can check it here.
What I did do was live by these quotes. I had always wanted to have a 4 hour work week, but I imagined it would be with some future venture where I set an intention to do so.
In living by the quotes above I had to shift into being a person so dedicated to my own voice and integrity of the words I was saying that it became unnerving for others.
I realized this type of commitment was rare.
But I didn’t care because I did not want to be bored.
Like a Catch 22, I had to speak my truth in my actions, my newsletters, my blogs, my social media, and my discussions with friends as I was learning what my voice was.
This was very uncomfortable and raw, it still is.
Do you know when you don’t get newsletters from me? That’s me shedding a snakeskin and getting more vulnerable with my message and I hesitate to send those…
I couldn’t hide from where I was going…because I was actually going places, all the time.
Most of the time, no one really cared about me staying the course except me. And this is honest to goodness truth.
Ever feel like that? Yeah. DITTO.
So essentially it was me and my word…my voice, my message…just chilling and making waves in my own tiny universe, which would ultimately make waves in the bigger one, like a feedback loop.
Eventually, I looked up and went…’Oh shit, it all worked.’
My voice does have weight.
Your voice has weight.
Your voice helps, it heals, it transforms not just your audience, but you as you speak.
This year’s words for my coaching practice are VOICE, VULNERABILITY, & VISIBILITY.
And 18 months from now, I will have two 4 hour work weeks. Flourish and a Coaching Practice. What else will I do?
Write books and stay excited about helping people transform. Have kids or something….travel.
What can I help you with?
As you know my time is limited, and the only private clients I take next year may very well be only the ones who sign on now.
My time is reserved for Manifestors. One’s who are capable of living by the quotes above.
Is that you?
Because my 6-month private coaching program is designed to support you in your transformation if you need results in your life and business NOW.
I DO NOT accept people into my program who want to do something ‘someday’.
If you need to manifest change NOW, click on the link below to schedule a 40-minute discovery call with me.
